Preparation and Lighting Steps

Trim the wick: Keep the wooden wick short, about 1/8 to 1/4 inch above the wax, before every burn. Snap off or pinch away any loose charred ash from previous burns with your fingers or a tissue.

Use an extended lighter: Choose a long wand lighter, BBQ lighter, or a rechargeable electric arc lighter to reach deep into the jar safely.

Tilt the candle: Pick up the jar and tilt it slightly so the flame can catch one corner and travel naturally across the entire wooden strip.

Be patient: Wood wicks take a little longer to catch fire than cotton wicks because the flame needs time to draw melted wax up into the wood.

Best Practices for Burning

Prevent tunneling: Let your candle burn for 2 to 4 hours on the first lighting, or until the top layer of wax melts completely to the edges of the container.

Expect flame fluctuations: It is normal for a wood wick flame to look low or change height slightly as it burns and adjusts to the fuel flow.

The Lion Mill

So where does the name 'The Lion Mill' come from? The Mill, located in the heart of Bridgewater, holds a rich history dating back to 1860 when it was originally known as The Lion Mill. Initially situated on a different property, this historic structure was an important part of the local industry. In the early 1970s, The Lion Mill was carefully relocated to its current location in Bridgewater, where it is now cherished as a family home and where our beautiful home fragrances are created.
